Tipperary athletes do well in Munster indoors at Nenagh

The Munster Junior & U/23 Indoor Championships was held in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Sunday. T

ipperary athletes fared well in all sections of the Championships winning 5 gold, 8 silver & 12 bronze medals in individual competitions with Nenagh Olympic A.C. winning gold in the Junior Men’s 4 x 200m Relay.

In the sprint & hurdles events, Oisin Fitzpatrick, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won bronze in the Junior Men’s 60m & 60m Hurdles, Leanne Prout, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. won bronze in the Junior Women’s 200m with Eimear Lynch, Newport A.C. winning silver & Margaret Mary Grace, Nenagh Olympic A.C. winning bronze in the U/23 Women’s 200m. Kelly Ann Doyle, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. won silver in the Junior Women’s 400m with Eimear Lynch & Margaret Mary Grace winning silver & bronze in the U/23 Women’s 400m. Nenagh Olympic A.C. took gold in the Junior Men’s 4 x 200m Relay.

In the middle distance competitions, Nenagh Olympic A.C. scored double gold in the Junior 800m races with Aoife Deering, winning the Junior Women’s 800m & Tom Hennessy winning the Junior Men’s race. Patrick Hughes, Thurles Crokes A.C. was 3rd in the U/23 Men’s 800m. In the Junior Men’s 1500m, Sean Tobin, Clonmel A.C. won gold with his team-mate, Michael Carey in 2nd place. Tipperary athletes were also prominent in the Walks with Sarah Ryan, Templemore A.C. placing 3rd in the Junior Women’s 3km Walk & Evan Lynch & Aaron Egan, Clonmel A.C. winning silver & bronze in the Junior Men’s 5km Walk.

In the field events, Simon Archer, Templemore A.C. won bronze in the Junior Men’s High Jump with Deirbhile Ryan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. & Coleen Nevin, Borrisokane A.C. winning silver & bronze in the Junior Girl’s Triple Jump. Aoife Bartley, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. won gold in the U/23 Women’s Triple Jump with Oisin Fitzpatrick & Darren Prout, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. winning silver & bronze in the Junior Men’s Triple Jump. Amanda Nevin, Borrisokane A.C. took the Munster title in the U/23 Women’s Long Jump with Deirbhile Ryan winning bronze in the Junior Women’s Shot Putt & her team-mate, Mark Tierney taking silver in the Junior Men’s Shot Putt. Thurs 10th – County Tipperary Athletics Board AGM in Horse & Jockey Hotel at 7pm.

Sat 12th – County U/13 to Junior Indoor Championships in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. See Order of Events at www.tipperaryathletics.com.

Sun 13th – Munster Juvenile Relays, Junior & Senior Cross Country Championships in Limerick Racecourse. Good luck to all our teams taking part.

Sat 19th – Nenagh Olympic A.C. are hosting an Open Indoor Competition for U9-U12 athletes. The aim is to give younger children a run before the Munster Championships in early Feb. The event will be run similar to the County Indoors. There will be a flat charge of 5 euro per person at the door which will cover everything including entry fees for all events. Volunteers from participating clubs will be required to help run the event.

Sat 26th - Woodie’s DIY AAI Juvenile, Junior, Senior & Masters Combined Events Championships in AIT Arena, Athlone.
