Last weekend saw the start of the Natitional darts competitions, with the frist round of the I.D.C held in the Rue Glen, South Kilkenny.

Tipperary had a large presence with five of the Senior team and eight of the youths team making the journey. These competitions are ranking tournaments and at the end of the year the top 64 in the mens and the top 24 in the youths play of in the grand finals.

While James- Gerry- Tom and John played well, bragging rights this week go to Mick O’Connell who played brilliant darts all day to win the final of his board 5-2 against Chris Connery, this put Mick into the quarter finals where he had no luck and went down 5-0 to Irish International Connie Finnan from Limerick.

In the youths PJ - Keith - Andrew and Lorcan went out in the early rounds after playing well, this left Aaron and Chris who made their exits at the last 16 stage and Murty went out in the quarter finals. While disappointed these competitions will stand to these young players in the future, well done to all who travelled and the County Board encourges more of our top players to make an effort to go to the remaining rounds. Next round took place in the Abbey Court in Nenagh on September 4.
