International successes for Orlaith Moynihan and Michael Carey

Last weekend four Irish teams travelled to Melmerby in Cumbria to challenge England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in the annual Junior Home International Hill Running with all the races uphill. Orlaith Moynihan was a member of a strong Irish Girls team under 16 but she was up against reigning European champion Annabel Mason (England) while Michael Carey was making his debut on the hills on the Irish Boys under 18 team. In the Girls under 16 race Orlaith ran very well when finishing 2nd Irish Girl when 10th in 27 mins 52 secs and played a major role in helping the Irish team win Silver medals. In the Boys Under 18 race Michael Carey ran well when finishing 18th in 39 mins 12 sec and helped the Irish team to win the Bronze medals. Twp very good performances from two talented athletes and these performances will be a great boost to them as they head into the Cross Country season.

Juvenile Club Training

at the Track

The Club has resumed training at the Track at the Dr Pat O’Callaghan Sports Complex, Cashel Road and at recent sessions we have witnessed a great increase in the numbers of athletes participating in these sessions - so much so that we have altered our training sessions to cater for this increase, this is great to see. The Club will continue to train every Tuesday and Thursday nights and with this change in training times we will be able to cater for the increase participation as new members are always welcome to come along and participate in our training session that are always supervised by qualified coaches in a variety of events from Sprinting to Middle distance as well as Long Jump. High Jump, Hurdles, Shot Putt and Ball Throw to name but a few events. Our Juvenile athletes in Nora’s, Paula’s and Angela’s groups now start training at 5.45pm and will finish at 6.45 pm. Then our Juvenile athletes with Anthony, Frank and Niall will start training at 6.30 to 7.30pm.
