Patrick Hogan wins Kilsheelan 10k

The Kilsheelan 10K Road race took place last Sunday in ideal running conditions. This was the 3rd promotion of this event and was the most successful to date with 175 participants, up 49 on last year’s race, with a great number of participants from the local area. This augurs well for the future as it now has solid local participation.

From the start Patrick Hogan of Ferrybank made his intentions known as he set a fast tempo all the way to come home a very worthy and convincing winner in a new course record of 31 mins 47 secs, bettering the old record of 32 mins 40 secs set by Philip Harty of Donore Harriers last year.

Danny Smith of Ballynonty was 2nd in 34 mins 27 secs with Ciaran Alyward of Rathfarnham 3rd in 35 mins 4 secs. Val Gunner of Gowran won the Men over 40 award in 35 mins 37secs with James Ryan of Dundrum 1st over 45 in 36 mins 53 secs and Joe Gough of West Waterford 1st over 50 in mins secs.

The Ladies race was won by Maria McCarthy of Farranfore in 39 mins 1 secs with Martina O’Dwyer of Carrick on Suir 2nd in 40 mins 17 secs with Marie Fitzgibbon of Thurles Crokes 3rd in 41 mins 23 secs. Diane Behan of Waterford was 1st over 40 in 42 mins 15 secs with Orna Power of West Waterford 1st over 45 in 47 mins 10 secs and Bernie Hopkins of Clonmel 1st over 50 in 51 mins 49 secs.
