Runner-up in All-Irelands:

Hearty Congratulations to Gold Coast member, Stella Queally, on finishing in 2nd place in the All Ireland Final of the May Fitzgibbon Trophy at Greystones Golf Club last Monday. Stella and her partner Grace McGrath qualified for the finals by winning through in Munster and with our success in the Jimmy Bruen it is turning out to be a great year for the Gold Coast. Again, well done Stella, we are all proud of you.


Congratulations to Waterford Golf Club who won through Leinster on Saturday last to qualify for the All Ireland Semi-finals in the Jimmy Bruen Shield. Wouldn’t it be great to have two Waterford teams fighting it out in the final?

Talk on Golf Injuries:

On Wednesday 22nd August we have arranged for Neville Coen, Chartered Physiotherapist, to give a short talk on the importance of warming up properly before playing golf. Neville will also talk on various injuries that affect golfers and how they can be avoided. The talk will take about 10 minutes and it will take place before the presentation of prizes at 9 p.m. on the above date.

President’s Skins and BBQ:

In the build up to the President’s Prize, which will take place from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th August, a Skins evening and BBQ (weather permitting) will take place on the Wednesday before (22nd August) the President’s Prize. It will get underway at 4.30 and the latest entry will be 7 p.m. Entry and re-entry is €1.

Junior Scratch Cup:

The Junior Scratch Cup for golfers with a handicap of 5 to 11 will take place on Sunday 12th August. It will be played off the Blue Tees and the format is stroke.

Jack Lynch Trophy:

The annual Jack Lynch memorial match between the Gold Coast and Dungarvan will take place at the Gold Coast on Monday 13th August from 4 p.m. each team will consist of 16 players, mostly over 50’s and the format is Fourball betterball over all 18 holes.

On Thursday 23rd August we will be having a beginners outing to West Waterford. This is for players with a handicap of over 30 and it will involve playing a scramble with an adult over a few holes. Names of players interested in playing must be given to Bob/Mark before 20th August.

President’s Prize presented by Martina Corkery will take place on Sunday 26th August.
