Last weekend Ballykisteen Golf Club held a very successful Open Classic over Saturday and Sunday.

With 43 teams participating from 15 different clubs around the region all competing for the fabulous first prize of a Golfing Break for 4 in Waterford Castle GC which includes Bed & Breakfast plus Evening Meal.

Despite the heavy rain earlier in the week the course was in fabulous condition which was reflected in the scores returned.

The winners of this event were Vice Captain John O’Connell, Richard Keays and Charleville members Mike Sexton and Danny Deedy with a fabulous score of 107 Pts. In second place came Pat Ryan, Ben Downey, Richard Byrnes and Eamonn Quirke with 106Pts and in 3rd place were Tony Browne, TJ Riordan, Colm Riordan and Willie Hartnett with 103Pts.

A fine crowd gathered in the BallyK bar for presentation of prizes by Captain Chris who thanked the committee members for organising the event. Chris’s team narrowly missed out on a prize finishing 4th due to a miscalculation of their score on the 18th, if you see Chris around the course just ask him to explain !! don’t think he’ll be marking the card in future.

Congratulations to Joe O’Dwyer who booked his place in the final of the Singles Matchplay with victory over Joe McDonald and awaits the winner of the other semi final that will take place this week.

Next weekend Oct 20th/21st we will hold our final Medal for 2012 and is kindly sponsored by Marian Riordan, Ballykisteen Pro Shop. With valuable golfer of the year points available this is the last competition for those at the top of the leaderboard to stake a claim on the GOTY title.

Winner of the Open Singles on Wed 10/10 was Charlie Compton with 44Pts from Roddy Crehan in 2nd with 40Pts

Fixtures for this week include our Senior Open Singles on Monday and our Open Singles on Wednesday. All bookings to be made on 062 – 32117.
