Cashel/ New-Inn hockey club are finishing on a high note going into Christmas in their 2012/2013 season.
The club currently has two teams - division 3 and division 6. The division 3 team are on top of the league with 21 points, scoring 37 goals, winning 7 games and losing 2. They beat UCC 2-0, Dungarvan 6-0, Waterford 7-0, Ashton 3-0 and 8-0 and lost to Cobh 3-2 and Church of Ireland 3-2. These two losses really put all the pressure on the team when they were playing Clonmel who were top of division 3 until Cashel/ New-Inn beat them in a very exciting nervous game 3-0. The home crowd supporters helped spur on the team for the whole game to will them on to be top of the league on this side on Christmas.
The defence has been solid all year with Caroline Maher in goal, a defence of Katie Oâ€™Connor, Mary Cooney, Maura Oâ€™Neill, Kate Molony, Emma Shanahan and Elaine Crosse. The mids are Suzanne Oâ€™ Connor, Margaret-Ann Cooney, Cliona Sheehy and Cora Hennessy who have worked hard in every game up and back the pitch. The forwards are Helen Horan, Aoife Barry, Darielle Ronan, Rachel Perdue, Rachel Stanley and Jane Oâ€™Brien who put the other teams under pressure up front.
The division 6 team are leaping up the league tables with three successive wins in their last outings in the league beating UCC 1-0 with a goal from Donna Horgan, Fermoy 3-0 with goals from Kate Heffernan and beating Church of Ireland 3-0.
The defenders who work very hard every game are Trish Maher (captain), Niamh Hayes, Jen Cummins, Elenor Browne, Rosann Hunt, Zara Butler, Nicole Thornton to name a few. The mids are Kate Heffernan, Edel Cummins, Carol Casey who have been excellent all season. The forwards are getting the results up front through Aisling Molony, Donna Horgan, Judith Shortall, Marina Flynn, Aisling Fitzell and Marie McHugh.
The division 6 team also won the fist round of the division 5 and 6 combined cup against a very strong division 5 team from Belvedere 6-2, with two hatricks from both Kate Heffernan and Aisling Moloney.
Last Sunday the girls drew with Limerick 1-1 with the important goal coming from Marie McHugh.
The division 3 team are also off to a great start in their Irish cup campaign with a lucky 3-2 win in Galway over a very young fit skilful NUIG team with goals from Suzanne Oâ€™Connor, Margaret-Ann Cooney and Darielle Ronan.
The quarter final is January 26, away in Galway again against Renmore.
