Head of Dundalk Karate, Sensei Mary Marcus, recently travelled to Kilnamanagh Community Centre in Dublin where she trained with Sensei Rick Hotton 5th Dan.
This was the first time that Sensei Rick Hotton had travelled to Ireland to teach and for any serious karate-ka wishing to develop their understanding of karate, it was a chance not to be missed.
Numerous karate-ka from all over Ireland travelled to Dublin to attend this seminar, and nobody was disappointed.
Sensei Hotton started training in 1970 at the West Wing Dojo in Florida, and when he inherited the dojo in 1976, he remained its instructor. Since then, he has endeavoured to train and learn from as many instructors as possible.
Sensei Mary Marcus said: “Seminars like these don’t occur very often and it was an opportunity that I could not miss. As an instructor it is important to keep up with my own training and to continue to learn and improve what I have learnt since starting my karate journey.”
“When I attend different seminars I try and bring back something new that I have learned to all members within Dundalk Karate, and when I see all members benefitting from these new techniques it makes all my hard work worthwhile.”
