Beaufort was the venue for the first of this year’s Munster Cross Country Championship with the Even Age Groups competition. In the girls under 10 race we had good performances from Veerle van der Wal who was 50th with Aine Grace 71st, Robyn O’Flynn 88th, Abby O’Sullivan 90th and Caoimhe Walsh 102nd. For some of these athletes it was their first taste of competition at this level and they performed very well. In the Boys under 10 race Carlos Grace ran well when finishing 56th. In the Girls under 12 race Aine O’Connell was 24th, Orla Winston 52nd, Caoimhe Mulcahy 53rd, Elma Casey 54th while we also had good performances from Ava Fennessy, Sophie Boyle, Hannah Berry and Chloe Conway. In the Boys under 12 race Shane Fitzgibbon was 62nd with Ben Durand 67th, Brian Lynch 72nd and Owen McCarthy 76th. In the Girls under 16 Moya Whelan was 22nd with Muireann O’Connell 36th, Anna Carey 41st and Ciara Parker 48th. Colm McCarthy was our sole representative in the Boys under 14 where he ran well when finishing 62nd. In the Boys under 16 race Anthony Tobin was 27th with Aaron Egan 34th. In the Girls under 18 race Orlaith Moynihan ran very well when finishing 4th. Then we had two very good performances from both Aoife Laste 7th and Megan O’Brien 8th.

The very popular Gerry Farnan 5 Mile Cross Country races took place in the Phoenix Park last Sunday. The Men’s race was won impressively by David McCarthy of West Waterford who in August won the Boston Scientific Half Marathon. Sean Tobin competed and he ran a brilliant race when finishing 6th overall in what was a very competitive race and in the process won the Junior Men’s Award. We also had good performances from both Michael Carey and Evan Egan.

County Uneven Age Groups Cross Country Championships take place in the Turnpike on this Sunday with the Club lying in 3rd place behind Nenagh Olympic and Thurles Crokes. The teams will be announced at training during the week and hopefully we will get as many members as possible to compete.
