Mid Tipp Hill Walkers had a busy day on Sunday as 31 people turned up in Cashel to take part in three different walks. On a day which was lovely at ground level but very cloudy in the mountains, Willie and Kate Fahey had some tricky navigation to do during their high level walk on Knockshanahullion in the Knockmealdown mountains, but all eight had a great day with a number of them brushing up on their navigation skills and all returned safely.
Meanwhile Ray Creaney led a very enjoyable moderate walk in the Galtees with 15 participants, taking in Galtybeg and Knockeenatoung where, unlike the Knockmealdowns and the Comeraghs, the cloud lifted from time to time and they had lovely views. Four new walkers were welcomed on the walk and enjoyed their day in the hills.
Finally a group of eight using ropes and climbing gear ascended a difficult gully near the Sgillogue Lakes in the Comeragh Mountains. It was our first serious gully in a few months and was enjoyed by all – another one is planned for late November.
Meanwhile this coming Sunday there is the usual high level walk leaving Cashel at 11am.
