Clonmel AC runners do well in club event

Clolnmel AC promoted a very successful 4 mile Road Race on St Stephen’s Day. It was a great success and the Club would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to make the race such a success. It was also great to see so many Club members participating and for many it was their debut over this course and it was also great to see so many members run so well with many recording a PB, even though they had to contend with a strong headwind over the final 2K, a great way to end 2012 and so everyone can look forward to another great year of competition with confidence in 2013.

Kevin Maunsell ran a brilliant race when finishing a very good 2nd in 19 mins 17 secs, having dictated the pace with the eventual winner Sergio Ciobanu as far as Ferryhouse and was still in closes attention at Moangarriff Roundabout. This was a great performance by Kevin who won the County Senior Cross Country title recently and on St Stephen’s day he set a new PB improving from last year’s run of 20:57.

Sean Tobin also ran very well and great to see that he has recovered well from a recent illness that denied him his place at the European Junior Cross Country Championships. Sean ran very well when finishing 3rd in 19:36, improving from last year’s run of 19:57. William Maunsell was 4th and he too ran a brilliant race when finishing in 20:03, improving on last year’s 21:24.

Michael Carey is another athlete who should be delighted with his performance. Michael ran very well when finishing 5th in 20:06 improving from 21:29 to win the Junior Men’s award.
