This was a very busy weekend for Clonmel, with players pulling out all the stops to ensure wins across the board.
With one league game left and Clonmel hoping for promotion they travelled to UCC for a must win match. UCC had a quick and skilful striker-kept under wraps by player of the match Laura Ryan in defence. Pamela Corcoran fired a rocket strike from a short corner 0-1 to Clonmel before the break.
There were many chances in the second half in the UCC circle, Clonmel were unlucky not to make final connections. Clonmel hit outs finding Pam Ryan and Sinead Heffernan running on the wing. In the forward line Marie Mulcahy’s stick-work turned her player every time and Ger Boland’s push just inside D finding UCC backboard result 2-0 win for Clon.
Division 3 took on Dungarvan in Dungarvan on their gravel pitch. Despite the gravel clonmel got straight into play. Once again, Niamh Connolly was fantastic in mid field setting up much play. Barbara Ryan made many connections in the forward line resulting in 2 Clonmel goals. Marie Mulcahy supported the many advances from Leah on the mid line into the forward line. Kate O’Sullivan and Pamela Corcoran consistent in back line. Final Score Clonmel 2 – Dungarvan 0.
Sunday Clonmel travelled to Mitchelstown to take on Cobh in the league. Despite the numerous matches of the weekend, Clonmel again went out with force. A side line ball from Gráinne McRedmond to Niamh Connolly was passed up the centre of the pitch to Maria Mulcahy’s awaiting stick who drove the ball home. Despite Cobh advances, clonmel back line remained strong. Clonmel were unfortunate not to score from short corners in the second half. Clonmel mid field of Jen Quinlan, Betty Barlow and Niamh Connolly worked relentlessly to gain possession. Final score Clonmel 1- Cobh 0.
Many thanks to Pamela Murray, Monica Ryan and Maria Mulcahy who played in all three matches this weekend.
