Moyne was the venue last Sunday for the County Women and Men’s Novice B road Championships. Held in dry but blustery conditions we saw some brilliant performances from Club members.

In the Women 3k race Rebecca Doocey ran a brilliant race when winning the Bronze medal in 12 mins 52 secs. This was a great performance as Rebecca went into this race having finished 9th in Clonmel in February. In the race she got away with the leading group and paced herself well. Then on the return journey she upped the pace to move into 3rd place with 500m to go and was closing all the time of the leaders when finishing strongly to win the Bronze medal, her first Senior medal, brilliant running.

Her performance also inspired the rest of the team who all ran very well with Ger McDonald finishing a very good 5th in 13 mins 50 secs and Deirdre Healy finishing 6th in 14 mins 9 secs with Joan Guidera also running very well when finishing 9th in 14 mins 27 secs and these athletes combined very well to win the Silver medals. For these Women it was their first taste of success at County level and they all started running less than two years ago, great achievement.

In the Men’s race we had good performances from Gary Grant who ran very well when finishing 9th in 22 mins 12 secs, a Personal best over this distance. Then we had Brian Carroll also running a PB well when finishing 13th in 23 mins 9 secs while Mark Corcoran also ran well when 19th in 24 mins 4 secs and these three combined very well to finish 4th, beaten by just one point for the Bronze medals.
