Last Sunday in glorious sunshine the first Major Singles Competition of the year at Ballykisteen Golf Club took place, the annual GVM Trophy Competition which as always is kindly sponsored by Tom Crosse.

This very popular annual event had a large turnout with almost 80 golfers taking part throughout the day but there could only be one winner and it was Raymond Kelly who was first past the post with a spectacular score of 44pts. He was followed in second by John O’Connell who recorded a fine score of 41pts and third place went to Steven Stapleton with 37pts.

The Junior GVM Trophy was won by Eamonn Ryan with a superb 43pts, the nine hole Ladies Competition was won by Lorraine Corbett with 16pts and the visitor’s prize was won by Paudie Ryan.

There was a fabulous display of prizes on show in the Ballyk bar on Sunday evening when Secretary Richard Keyes introduced proceedings and together with Captain Chris Ahern and sponsor Tom Crosse, they congratulated all the winners and thanked everyone for support on the day. Chris thanked Tom for his continued support and Tom announced how delighted GVM were to be associated with Ballykisteen Golf Club over the years.

There was also the presentation of prizes from the recent April and May Medals and the Colm Whelan Memorial event.
