At the recent meeting of Co Tipperary Community Games, Chairman Seamus Hogan expressed his delight at the fine performances given by all teams who contested the Munster Finals, congratulated all winners and wished them the best of luck at the National Finals.
The County Youth Committee who consist of Claire Hogan, St Flannans; Lorraine O’Shea, Ballingarry; Sorcha Griffin, Clonmel; Dorothy Cullagh, Silvermines; Alan Ryan and Declan Rodgers, both Tipperary Town, along with Michael Carey, Clonmel; Cliona Doyle, New Inn and Shane Cooke, Roscrea were all complimented on the great work they carried out during the year, especially officiating at the county finals of the Art and Model Making and the Athletics.
All these young people are former competitors who are now overage for competition but have volunteered to give their time to assist with administration and development to ensure that other children will enjoy the fun and friendships that they experienced over the years. They are anxious to extend their committee so if anybody would like to be a part of this enterprising young group please contact Claire Hogan at 087-7447546. They are holding their first county meeting at 7pm in Hayes Hotel, Thurles on Wednesday, August 15, this is prior to the main county board meeting at 8pm. They would love to see new faces, anyone interested are more than welcome to come along.
Weekend 2 of the National Finals will take place from August 17 to 19 in AIT, Athlone. The events which Tipperary are represented in are Individual:- Cycling on grass, Gymnastics and Swimming. All girls Swimming will be held in the Regional Pool on Saturday, August 1 and all boys on Sunday August 19. This is important information for anyone wishing to book their accommodation. Team events are: Hardcourt Tennis(Cashel), U12 girls Soccer (Roscrea), U12 Skittles (Ballingarry),U16 Skittles (Ss Peter and Paul’s)
Weekend 3 of the National Finals is from August 24 to 26 where Athletics will take centre stage. Tipperary have competitors in all track events, all relays and all field events with the exception of the boys discus. Teams: Camogie which will be contested by Nenagh. The draw is Connaught v Leinster semifinal 1, Munster v Ulster semifinal 2 in all events. All semifinals will take place on the Saturday, all play offs for Bronze and Petwer medals and all finals on the Sunday of both weekends.
