Community Games

The County Finals of Community Games Gymnastics took place last weekend, hosted by Powerstown Lisronagh area in the fabulous facilities of Moyle Park Sports Complex.

There was a record number of 113 entries overall. The judges Michelle Sheehan, Christine Brunnick and Andrea O’Keeffe had a long and difficult task selecting the winners in some very closely contested championships.

Four competitors followed up their success of last year winning their second gold medal in a row - Kayleigh Flannery, from Clerihan, Karine Blair, New Inn, Siobhan Murchan and John Carroll both from Kilsheelan which also emerged the best overall area on the day with Sara Hogan winning bronze.

Dedication paid off also for Olga Lacey from Mullinahone who won silver medals for the past two years but won Gold in the under 16 event in an impressive fashion on this occasion. The winner of each event will now represent Tipperary at the HSE Community Games National Finals in Athlone on the weekend of August 12 to 14.

All winners going forward for the first time must forward copy of their birth certificate to their area secretary asap. Those who competed last year are already registered. Co-Ordinator Martin O’Keeffe would like to thank most sincerely all of the following:- the judges, Pat and Joan O’Connor, Anne Quinlan and all those associated with Moyle Rovers for their amazing amount of help, preparing the hall, transporting the mats, organising the shop, On Your Toes and Kool School for supplying competition mats, practice mats and vault and also for their dedication in preparing the children for the competition. Margaret Burke Hogan for assisting with PR Work also Bernard and Emma who looked after the admission, the electrician, who came to our help with amplification and anyone who helped in any way to make this event an outstanding success. There was disappointment for children from Killenaule area who could not compete officially as the area is not affiliated.
