Tipperary darts travelled to Limerick last weekend for the annual Invitational Tournament.

Teams from all around the country take part in this and some of the best players are on show.

The county board sent four teams, two men and two ladies - while the ladies B and the mens B teams were competitive they had very little luck on the day and were knocked out in the group stages.

After the group stage the ladies A team finished level with Clare so a play off was needed to see who progressed, Sandra O’Connor steped forward for Tipperary and played some steady darts and took her chances when they came to send her team into the semi-finals.

In this game they came across a Mayo team who were playing some brilliant darts and the Tipperary ladies just could not find their form and lost out. Well done and hard luck to all, well done to Ger Coonan team manager.

Tipperary mens A came out of the group stages after some great games and they played the host county in the quarter final - they won this on a score of six-three. In the semis they came up against Galway and after some ding dong battles the score stood at six all.

Mick Smith went into the final game with everything at stake, however it was not to be and Galway progressed, a small bit of luck and things could have been different, but if all teams keep playing like this during the remainder of the year, silverware will surely follow.

Well done to all and to Martin Sheehan (manager).
