The County Track and Field Championships for Juniors, Seniors and Masters takes place in Templemore on Saturday 22nd June starting at 1.30pm.
This is an ideal opportunity for County athletes to compete on the Track. The following events are catered for most of the above mentioned categories for both Men and Women starting with the Walks, 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m (women), 5000M (Men), High Jump. Long Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin and Shot Putt. There are also 4 by 100m for Junior, Senior and Master Men and Women as well as a Senior Medley relay and a Junior Men and Women 4 by 400m relays. So a great variety of events to compete in and it would be great if all Clubs could make an effort to support these Championships which have been faltering for the past few years. With the co operation of all Clubs we can make these Championships a brilliant success. .In the Master categories all the Age groups will be catered for provided we get sufficient entries, Entries will be taken on the day. As regards eligibility: Junior, Age Eligibility: Over 16 and Under 20 on the 31st of December in the year of competition Junior’s may compete as Junior or Senior, but not both. Senior is for athletes over 20 and under 35 for both Men and Women. In the master categories, it is the age on the day of competition that count.
The Dave Fogarty 4 Mile Road Race – Thurles – 20th June
Thurles Crokes are promoting this popular 4 mile event in honour of a man who gave great service to both Club and County for many years. Entries will be taken at the Thurles Crokes complex on the Nenagh Road from 6.30pm onwards. There are plenty of prize to be won with prizes for the 1st 5 Senior Men as well as 0/40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 and Junior Men. The women are also well catered for with prizes for the 1st 5 Senior Women as well as 0/40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 and Junior Men. The entry fee is 10 Euros for Senior and Master while it is 5 Euros for Juniors. There is also a 4 Mile walk starting at 7.30pm and here the entry Fee is 5 Euros. This event has an AAI race Permit and only AAI permit approved event should be supported by Registered athletes as all funds raised in these events are ploughed back into the Sport by the Club. We would encourage all athletes to support these events as they are promoted by Athletic Clubs where every level of fitness is catered for.
The Champion Kiely 5k Road Race
This popular race takes place in Ballyneale on Friday 28th June at 7.30pm. This event has grown in stature over the past number of years and one of the main features is the course. The route is relatively flat and an ideal race for athletes of all abilities to run a Personal Best over this Classic distance. This year’s event is sponsored by MSD. The Entry fee is 10 Euros and entries will be taken on the day in the local community hall. The organising committee have great prizes that will cater for all the major categories. Coillte 10K Road Race
This popular race takes place in Dundrum on Wednesday 3rd July at 8pm. This race is over a 2 lap course which is relatively flat. Here each participant will receive a Quality Embroidered Souvenir Hand Towel while there are prizes for all the major categories as well as Spot Prizes for down the field finishers.
