The 2013/2014 season for Tipperary Tiger Sharks looks set to be an extremely busy and productive one with an increased membership for this popular competitive swimming club.

The Tipp town club has already enjoyed significant success this season and is looking forward to more strong performances at upcoming galas, beginning on Sunday in Waterford.

And rising star Ben Hogan is leading by example.

The club welcomes 11 new members to the development squad programme.

All new swimmers start at ‘C’ grade level when they join the main squad after successful completion of the development squad programme with our development squad coach Mairead Kennedy, together with some existing swimmers.

Their aim is to improve their times at each gala they attend to reach their ‘B’ times and so therefore become a ‘B’ Grade swimmer.

In time, swimmers progress to ‘A’ Grade, Division 2 and Division 1 within the Swim Ireland qualification standards.

Our congratulations go to Ben Hogan who was awarded Swimmer of the Year.

This was awarded for the person who demonstrated a professional attitude to training and achieved many successes.

Ben has had a very successful year, the highlight being the All-Ireland IAG Div 2 Championships last June, where he came second in the finals and won a silver medal.

It is an honour for the club to have swimmers going forward to National Championships.

Ben is an inspiration to our younger swimmers that through hard work, dedication and commitment to training, any swimmer can achieve their goals.

On Saturday, October 26, twenty members of the squad travelled to the Mallow Invitational Gala in Co.Cork.

This was the first gala of the season and our swimmers are off to a great start with each swimmer achieving personal bests on their times.

As a result, Tipperary Tiger Sharks finished this gala with 12 individual medals, 4 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Their dedication and commitment to training will in no doubt lead them to even greater achievements as the season progresses.

The club is now looking forward to a ‘C’ Grade gala for our junior squad on Sunday, November 10 in Waterford.
