County Tipperary juvenile athletics update

The County Juvenile Relay Cross Country Championships took place in Thurles Crokes Complex on Sunday.

Our thanks to Thurles Crokes A.C. for hosting this event in their top class venue and to all who helped out on the day to make it such a success.

Great numbers of athletes turned out for the competition which saw 16 teams in the Boys U/10, 12 in the Girls U/10, 10 in the Boys U/12, 11 in the Girls U/12, 6 in the Boys U/14, 4 in the Girls U/14 & 5 teams in the Mixed U/16 competition.

In the Girls competition, there were wins for Templemore A.C. in the Girls U/10 with Moyne A.C. in 2nd place & Nenagh Olympic A.C. in 3rd. Clonmel A.C. took the title in the Girls U/12 with Moyne A.C. in 2nd place & Newport A.C. in 3rd. In the Girls U/14 race, Nenagh Olympic A.C. took gold with Templemore A.C. in 2nd place & Moyne 3rd. In the Boys competition, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won gold & silver in the Boys U/10 with Moyne A.C. in 3rd place. Nenagh Olympic A.C. clinched gold again in the Boys U/12 with Templemore A.C. in 2nd place & Dundrum A.C. in 3rd. Thurles Crokes A.C. won the U/14 title with Carrick-On-Suir A.C. in 2nd place & Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in 3rd. In the Mixed U/16 competition, it was gold for Tipperary Town A.C. with silver for Nenagh Olympic A.C. & bronze for Moyne A.C. Results & photos can be found at

Qualifiers for National Even Age XC
Can all County Clubs who have athletes who qualified for the National Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships please confirm with County Cross Country Secretary, Nikki Hennessy as to whether their athletes will be competing in Santry on Sunday 17th November. County Juvenile “B” & Novice “B” Cross Country Date
The date for the forthcoming County Juvenile “B” & Novice “B” Cross Country Championships will be Sunday 24th November in the Middlepiece, Turnpike, Two Mile Borris.

Nenagh Olympic A.C. to host two further Open Indoor Competitions
Nenagh Olympic A.C. will be holding two Open Indoor Track & Field competitions in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. The first competition will be for athletes U/9 to U/12 & will take place on Saturday 7th December with the second competition for athletes U/13 to Junior taking place on Saturday 11th January 2014. “Get Fit for your Team Sport”, Wednesday 20th November 2013 at 11.15am in Marlfield GAA Club, Clonmel. Races for 1st to 6th year students with individual & team prizes & overall prizes for best school. See more information at


Sports Hall Athletics

The Sports Hall Athletic Training for County Tipperary Clubs will take place in Moyne Pavilion on Thursday 7th November from 7pm to 9 pm. If Clubs are interested in learning more & getting trained up, please come along on the night.

National Combined Events Squad 2014
The first session of the National Combined Events Squad takes place in Morton Stadium, Santry on Sunday 17th November from 12.30pm to 4.30pm. Well done to Dan Finnerty, Nenagh Olympic A.C., Daniel & David Ryan & Jack Fallon, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. who have all been selected based on their great performances in National Combined Events competitions in 2013. Munster Performance Squad 2013/2014

The Munster Performance Squad Dates & Venues for 2013/2014 season have been confirmed as follows:

 - Sat 30th Nov Cork IT 10am-2pm

- Sat 1st Feb Nenagh 10am-2pm

- Sun 9th March UL Track 10am-2pm

- Sun 13th April Cork IT 10am-2pm

 Full details will be posted on the Athletics Ireland and Munster Athletics websites this week and a letter & e mail with those selected will be sent to all clubs. Athletes will then confirm their place on the online registration form by Friday 22nd November. It is open to all those selected from u15-u21 in 2013 age groups so those born 1999-1993 and also open to any athlete who has been at a major championship in the past couple of years e.g Euro Youth Olympics, Euro Juniors or World Juniors.

 The selection criteria for all athletes is below in the following order:

 - An athlete that has represented Ireland at Schools or Clubs competition in 2013

- An athlete that has finished in the top 3 at an All Ireland Outdoor Schools or Clubs championships in 2013

- An athlete that has finished in the top 5 at an All Ireland Outdoor Schools or Clubs championships or top 3 at an All Ireland Indoor Championships in 2013.

- An athlete that has been injured or has shown tremendous potential in an event

 Those not selected on the Performance Squads are encouraged to attend the Winter Coaching Series days along with their personal coaches. The Tipperary Development Cross Country Squad Sessions continue every Saturday morning from 10.30am to 11.30am in Thurles Crokes Complex for athletes aged U/10 upwards who intend competing in the Munster Championships.
