Good running at Munster cross country in Cashel

Cashel was the venue last Sunday for the Munster junior and Senior Cross Country Championships.

Cashel was the venue last Sunday for the Munster junior and Senior Cross Country Championships.

These Championships were promoted by Dundrum Athletic Club on the land of Michael Ryan at Deansgrove, Cashel. The Dundrum Club are to be credited with having everything they could do done to perfection, they had no control over the weather and this played havoc with the event as athletes had to contend with driving rain and strong winds.

In the Junior Women’s race Eimer Loughman of Dundrum ran very well when finishing 4th. In the Senior Ladies race Siobhan O Doherty of Borrisokane ran brilliantly when recording a gun to tape victory very convincingly in such conditions.

Madeline Loughnane of Thurles Crokes ran a brilliant race when finishing very strongly over the final 800m to win the Silver medal. We also saw very good performances from Dymphna Ryan (Dundrum) 7th, Maire Fitzgibbon (Thurles Crokes) 12th and Martina Ryan (Thurles Crokes) 13th. This squad combined very well to win the Silver medal just edged out for the Gold by one point, brilliant performances.

In the Men’s race Kevin Maunsell (Clonmel) ran very well when finishing 5th. Then we had very good performances from Brian Murphy (Carrick on Suir) 7th, Niall McCormack (Clonmel) 10th, Kevin Moore (Dundrum) 17th, Patrick Roche (Carrick on Suir) 20th, Tom Blackburn (Moore Abbey Milers) 30th and they combined to win the Silver medal. We also saw good performances from William O’Dwyer (Dundrum) 31st, Pat Ryan (Dundrum) 32nd, Donal Keane (Dundrum) 33rd, Neil Fox (Clonmel) 35th, Michael Ryan (Dundrum) 36th, Declan Curley (Clonmel) 37th, Michael Moore (Dundrum) 38th and Niall O Ceallaigh (Clonmel) 39th. In the Inter Club competition Clonmel won their first set of meals at this level when winning the inter Club bronze medals with their team of Kevin, Niall, Neil and Declan.
