A busy weekend for darts last weekend, as the Ladies and Youths Masters took place in the Princess Bar, Clonmel and Barrons Bar, in New Inn respectively.

Willie Cronin manager of the Ladies team was very happy with the turn out and after some great games of darts, Pauline M Carthy beat Margie Sheen 2-1 in the final.

The ladies team have shown great improvement in the past 12 months and with some new additions it is hoped they will be very competitive over the coming season and with a bit of luck land some silverware.

The youths event in New Inn produced some amazing darts in both the Masters and the Cup events. These players range in age from 11 up to 18 and with the standard they play at the future of Tipperary Darts is bright.

These players have been unlucky over the past few years with having been beaten in the last two All- Irelands. The Cup semi finals came down between Conor Moore and Evan Shine where Conor came out on top with a 3-2 win, the other semi was between Andrew Hahessy and Micheal Joyce and Andrew won this 3-0. The final produced some great darts which Andrew won 3-1.

The Masters produced some brilliant darts which were as good as we see on TV and after the earlier rounds the two Semi finals came down between Lorcan O’Donovan and Keith Gavin. Keith was unlucky to meet Lorcan in top form and lost 3-1 after throwing good darts.

The other Semi was between Murty Browne and Bodien Fogarty, this game went right to the wire, at two all the final leg was tense with Murty missing a double to win the game, but Bodien came to the board with 74 to do and took out double four with his last dart. The final between Lorcan and Bodien produced some of the best darts of the day and after eight great legs Lorcan came won on a score of 5-3 to become the first player to retain the title he won last year.

The County Board would like to thank Mick Smith, Johnny Geeron and Martin Browne our youth officers and they would encourage any young person male or female who has an interest in Darts to contact any of them or any member of the county board. They would like to thank the Princess Bar and Barrons for hosting this year’s event, also thanks to Andy and Mary O’Neill of LCD darts for their continued sponsorship of Youths Darts in the County. The board would like to also thank anyone else who helps with the Youths set up in the County too numerous to mention individually but thanks again.

Congratulations also to one of our Senior players Gerry O’Hara who preformed great in the Tom Kirby tournament in Dublin over the weekend, going out at the Quarter final stage to the eventual winner - keep it up, a big win is near, Gerry.
