The scoring was extremely hot in the Golf Store (John O’Dwyer) sponsored 18 hole stableford competition played on Saturday and Sunday last where a total of 130 players (65 pairs) played a lot of good golf on a really well set up golf course.

Two pairs had 48 points and there were two other scores of 47 points but in handicap terms the most remarkable of the 48s was that of Tom Duggan and Edgar Lonergan with handicaps of 2 and 7 respectively when you consider that they were playing off of only ¾ of their handicaps. Tom & Edgar had a blistering 25 points for the first nine holes which was equivalent to four under par better-ball. Tom was then the catalyst for a third place finish also, this time with another Lonergan, Eamonn, and between them they had 47 points, winning this time on the last nine.

In second place was Padraig Quinlivan and Brian Fallon off of 9 and 13 handicaps respectively  and they were also in really hot form shooting 26 points on the first nine holes. Obviously Padraig is continuing his good form following his heroic exploits in Douglas with the Clonmel Mixed Foursomes Team, recent winners of the Munster title.

But perhaps the unluckiest pair in the competition were Sean Hogan and Christy Barter. They had nine 3 pointers on the first nine holes and were still under par better ball playing the last, looking at maybe 49 points, but unfortunately, Lady Luck didn’t smile on them as they failed to score on the last hole and then were agonisingly beaten from third spot by the better back nine of the third winning pair - such is golf!

Our thanks to The Golf Store (John O’Dwyer) for his generous sponsorship of this competition.
