Clonmel Rowing Club had a very busy month as it welcomed over 20 new juniors trying out rowing – most for the first time.
The enthusiasm that the “newbies” bring to the club is something we all enjoy, and watching them overcome their nerves while learning new skills is very rewarding.
More than one rowing coach has come across children with a natural talent for rowing, who previously considered themselves not sporty or uncoordinated.
At this time of year, we are limited to water work (rowing on the river) only happening on weekends, simply because it is too dark by the time midweek training concludes at 8pm. Our experienced rowers are well aware of the demands of winter training, which is all about building aerobic fitness, strength and stamina by training in the gym.
The beginning of the season is always challenging for Clonmel Rowing Club coaching staff as we try to ensure that all members receive equal attention. We are appealing to any past members willing to coach over weekends (Sat/Sun 9.30-12.30pm) for water training, or on weeknights (Tue/Thu 6.30-8.30pm) at indoor training sessions, to please help! Please!! If you have the skills and the time, contact us at the Club on Saturday morning at 10am, or contact 0863519753. Our Annual General Meeting will take place at the Clubhouse on Friday, September 27 at 7.30pm, to which all members and interested parents are invited.
