County Tipperary juvenile athletics update

The County Juvenile “B” Cross Country Championships took place on Sunday in the Middlepiece, Turnpike, Two Mile Borris.

Well done to Daniel Ryan, CBS Thurles/Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. who won gold in the Junior Boys competition at the All Ireland Schools Combined Events in AIT International Arena on Saturday 16th November, his second successive title in this event.

Congrats also to Paul White, CBS Nenagh/Nenagh Olympic A.C. who won bronze in the Senior Boys competition & to Michael Quilligan, CBS Nenagh/Nenagh Olympic A.C. who finished in 5th place in the Inter Boys competition. Lauren Moylan, Nenagh College/Nenagh Olympic A.C. also performed well in the Junior Girls competition to finish in 9th place. Daniel & Michael will now represent Ireland on the Junior & Inter Boys teams at the Schools Combined Events International in the Emirates Arena, Glasglow on Saturday 14th December. 

The National Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships took place in Santry Demesne, Dublin on Sunday 17th November. Congrats to Laura Tobin, Clonmel A.C. who had a great run to finish 12th in the Girls U/18 race winning an individual medal. There was a gold Inter-Provincial medal for Jack Fallon, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. in the Boys U/14 race where he finished an excellent 16th place, first home for Tipperary & 5th scoring member of the Munster team. Ted Collins, Nenagh Olympic A.C. also won a silver Inter-Provincial medal with the Munster team as the 6th scoring member when he finished a great 21st place overall & first home for Tipperary. The South Tipperary Post Primary Schools Cross Country competition took place in ideal conditions on Wednesday 20th November in the Marlfield GAA Complex, Clonmel. This event was promoted by Carrick on Suir and Clonmel athletic Clubs. Both Clubs are grateful to Marlfield GAA for the use of their fine facilities. Competition was very keen in all 8 races and many of these athletes will now go on to represent their Schools at the upcoming County Post Primary Schools Cross Country Championships which will take place in Thurles Crokes Complex on Wednesday 4th December starting at 11am. The Loreto Convent Clonmel won the Best Girls School competition while Comeragh College Carrick on Suir were

winners of the Best Boys School Shield. Scoil Ruain were impressive winners of the Best Community Post Primary School award. Full results at www.tipperaryathletics.com.

Nenagh Olympic A.C. will be holding two Open Indoor Track & Field competitions in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. The first competition will be for athletes U/9 to U/12 (2014 ages) & will take place on Saturday 7th December with the second competition for athletes U/13 to Junior taking place on Sunday 12th January 2014. This year’s Cross Country Championships will be held on Wednesday 4th December, 2013, at Thurles Crokes Track, on the Racecourse Road, Thurles, opposite the TRBDI. The programme will commence at 11.30am.

Programme & Order of events is as follows:

Minor Girls - Under 14 on the 1st July 2014 - 1200 meters

Minor Boys - Under 14 on the 1st July 2014 - 1200 meters

Junior Girls - Under 15 on the 1st July 2014 - 1200 meters

Junior Boys - Under 15 on the 1st July 2014 - 1500 meters

Intermediate Girls - Under 17 on the 1st July 2014 - 1500 meters

Intermediate Boys - Under 17 on the 1st July 2014 - 2000 meters

Senior Girls - Under 19 on the 1st January 2014 - 2000 meters

Senior Boy - Under 19 on the 1st January 2014 - 3000 meters

Individual Awards: Medals will be awarded to the first three individuals in each race.

Scoring Team Awards. For Boys it is four to score, and for Girls it is three to score. Medals will be awarded to the scoring members of the first three teams. A set of bronze medals will also be awarded to the fourth team in the Minor, Junior, and Intermediate Boys and Girls races. A Perpetual Shield will be presented to the best overall Boys and Best Overall Girls school. There will also be a Perpetual Shield for the best combined Girls and Boys School.

The scoring for this is as follows: (if there are 4 teams competing) – 1st Team 5 points, 2nd

Team 3 points, 3rd Team 2 points and 4th team 1 point.

Entries & Entry Fees. The entry fee is €2.00 per athlete. There is no team fee and no limit on team size or the number of teams. The closing date for entries is Monday 2nd December, due to the late issue of this poster, with entries to be sent to Mr Niall O’Sullivan, Brick, Knocklofty, Clonmel, Co Tipperary.
