Clonmel athletes shine at indoor championships

The first day of the All Ireland Juvenile under 12 to under 19 Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh last Saturday. It was great to see Clonmel athletes performing so well on the national stage.

The first day of the All Ireland Juvenile under 12 to under 19 Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh last Saturday. It was great to see Clonmel athletes performing so well on the national stage.

In the Girls under 15 Phoebe Murphy underlined her potential with another superb performance in the 60M final. She got a good start out of the blocks but turn on the style over the 60m to win a brilliant race in 8.07secs.

Orlaith Moynihan ran very well in the Girls under 17 1500M when finishing 5th in 5 mins 6.72 secs. The last race of the day was the Boy’s under 19 1500m final. Going into this race Sean Tobin was a warm favourite following on from his Munster 1500m winning performance. In the final he went to the front from the gun and set a strong pace that saw him win very convincingly in a new Championship Best performance of 3 mins 56.52 secs.

On Sunday the Clonmel colours were carried by Saoirse McGeever in the Girls under 16 60M hurdles. In the semi final she ran very well when finishing 2nd and thus qualified for her first Indoor All Ireland Championship Track final. In the final she got a brilliant start and she maintained a good strong rhythm over the hurdles to win the Silver medal in 9.26 secs
