GAA Stars all set for ‘Friends’ Golf Classic
Many current and former Tipperary GAA stars will swing into action in the eagerly-awaited ‘Friends of Tipperary Football’ golf classic in Thurles Golf Club on Saturday August 17th.
A sub- committee of the ‘Friends’ chaired by former Tipperary footballer and team manager Seamus McCarthy have been busy in recent weeks making arrangements for the big day and they are “delighted with the keen interest shown in the event.”
Many current and former players have indicated their desire to take part in the classic, according to Seamus McCarthy. “ Our aim is two fold, we want the classic to be a wonderful event as a fundraiser for Tipperary football, and also a special social occasion when players past and present can meet up and enjoy a great evening.” Seamus added.
Entry €120 for team of four, and €50 per tee box.”
Teams wishing to enter the classic may contact Seamus McCarthy, Eddie Lonergan, Secretary of ‘Friends of Tipperary Football, or any member of the ‘Friends’ committee.

Cobh Golfer wins Senior Scratch Cup
Brian Ahern, a three handicapper from Cobh Golf Club took the major honours when he won the Magnier Family sponsored Senior Scratch Cup played last weekend. Brian got around for a winning level par score. He shared the scoring honours with Mark O’Loughlin (2nd), Clonmel, off of 5 and Michael Greene (3rd) Waterford off of scratch but Brian had the better back nine where he recorded a one under par gross 34.
The Wall family sponsored Junior Scratch Cup was a triumph for two Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club players when J.M. Kelly (9) had a 75 gross and was a shot better than his club compatriot, Alan Casey (6) who in turn had a better last 6 than Billy Hewitt (6) Clonmel.
The Patterson Family sponsored Intermediate Scratch Cup was won by Conor Moroney (Clonmel) who had a very good 79 off of 12 handicap. Conor was three shots clear of TJ Lyons (12) who in turn was a shot clear of Brendan Hickey (13).

Munster Mixed Foursomes Semi Finals (& Final)
Good luck to our Mixed Foursomes Team who are playing in the Munster Semi Final (and hopefully the Final) in Douglas Golf Club on Saturday next, 3rd August at 9 am. Members are asked to give the team their support.
The Trustees’ (Mrs Maura Morrison & Mr. Tom Bourke) Prize will be played next weekend, 3rd and 4th August. This is normally a single day competition but to give members - who might be travelling to Douglas to see the Mixed Foursomes - an opportunity to participate in the Trustees Prize, members may play on Sunday (if they haven’t played the course on Saturday). A Club Stableford competition will also be run on Sunday.
Note: There will be an open draw for the President’s (Mr. Sean Callaghan) Prize on August 24th. Draw sheet is on display on the Notice Board.

The 37th draw in our Weekly Club Fundraising Lotto took place last Saturday 27th July at the Clubhouse.

First Open Junior Captain’s Prize
Next weekend our Junior Captain Cathal McGrath will host the first open Junior Captains Prize on Sunday August 4th. This is an 18 hole stroke off the white tees for handicap’s under 18 and there also will be a men’s 18 hole stroke from the white tees.
Timesheet is now open for Senior Singles every Monday and Open Singles every Wednesday.
The winner of the 9 hole competition for Men’s Captain, John O’Connell’s Day was Paula Carroll with 15pts
