Five Clonmel athletes on Tailteann Games team

The prestigious Tailteann Inter Provincial games are the biggest Inter Schools event in the Schools and over the years Clonmel has had its share of participants involved.

The prestigious Tailteann Inter Provincial games are the biggest Inter Schools event in the Schools and over the years Clonmel has had its share of participants involved.

2012 sets the bar higher than ever before with no fewer than five of Clonmel Athletic Club’s finest athletes to represent their respective schools in this fantastic event.

The Tailteann games provide an opportunity for provinces to send their top two or three Intermediate Schools athletes depending on event to compete in this flagship event. This event also assists selectors to pick the Schools International Team.

From Clonmel are -

Aaron Egan (Clonmel High School) although a junior walker has been elevated to intermediate such was his fine display in the All Ireland Schools. Aaron will now walk in the 3km walk.

Phoebe Murphy (Loreto Convent) another Junior athlete has also been elevated to Intermediate after her fine sprint double in the Munster Schools. Phoebe will represent Munster in the 100mt and 200mt.

Roisin Cleary (Presentation Convent Clonmel) who won the Intermediate girls 800 meter in the Munster Schools championship will participate in the 800 meter and will be keen to improve on her All Ireland performance.

Orlaith Moynihan (Loreto Convent) who has been making a name for herself in the 3000 meters has been chosen to represent School and province in the 3000 meter race a race which saw her finish a fine fourth in the All Ireland Schools.

Megan O’Brien (Loreto Convent) has been selected to participate in the 300 meter and the Relay event such is her strength at present.

This is a record for Clonmel Athletic Club and the Club would like to wish the best to all five who will participate in these fantastic games in Santry on June 23.
