Some of the best young boxers in Munster took to the ring in Cashel, at the weekend, in the new club’s first High Performance Tournament.
Last Sunday, September 30, Cashel Boxing Club hosted the Munster High Performance Tournament in Halla Na Féile, showcasing some excellent amateur boxing bouts.
Cashel Boxing Club’s own Mickey Delaney did really well and won his first ever match against Daniel Burke of Clonmel. His brother, Thomas Delaney, also won his fight after three very exciting rounds against Thomas Caffrey of Thurles. William O’Reilly of Cashel performed very well but lost by a few points to Clonmel’s Ferghal Defaoite.
The tournament included bouts between some of the best men and women under 23 and intermediates. Shauna O’Keefe (Clonmel) and Kayleigh Murrihy (Kilfenora) were awarded ‘Best Fight of the Day’ after a close match, which was won by Murrihy.
Cashel Boxing Club would like to thank the Munster Council and Munster High Performance for bringing this tournament to Cashel and a big thank you to the committee of Halla Na Féile for allowing us to host this tournament in such a great venue. Also, thank you to the Bake House in Cashel which sponsored bread on the day. And last but not least, to all the volunteers of Cashel Boxing Club who organised the event and helped out on the day.
Cashel Boxing Club is having a book sale in Tesco in Cashel from October 18 to 20 and if anyone wants to donate books you can do so by dropping them in to Spafield FRC or Cashel Boxing Club on Cahir Road.
