Pat raises E2,500 on round-Ireland motorbike ’spin’

A feat of endurance and achievement by Cahir’s Pat Cunningham has seen the local man raise an impressive E2,500 for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

Pat made it all around Ireland in 23 hours and 20 minutes on his motorbike for his Saddle sore for Crumlin project. A total of 1087 miles - “what a spin it was!”

The local fundriser aimed to travel around Ireland on his motorbike in 24 hours. He signed out from Noel O’Donnell’s Texaco service station at 10pm last Friday night and headed to Dublin, where he fueled up.

“Unknown to me a bunch of people from Crumlin were waiting for me to cheer me on and it brought a tear to my eye but I blamed it on the wind ha ha!” Pat joked.

From Dublin Pat headed to Wexford where he was met with heavy fog all the way to Waterford. “On the way to Cork two foxes nearly took me out, from Gort in Galway to Clifden to Sligo it lashed rain all the way. The sun shone for the rest of the trip with only four stops to clean off the visor of my helmet because of the thousands of bugs that hit me. I signed back in at 9.20pm on Saturday night to Noel’s again.”

All in under 24 hours!

Pat would like to thank all the people of Cahir who supported him on this “crazy event.”

“Between us we raised €2,500 from my last count and I have more cards to come back in and all for C.M.R.F. Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Special thanks to Dalton trucks, Anne Marie Clancy and Glenpatrick Water for getting me off to a great start in the fundraising and thanks again for supporting me and Crumlin. To every business that I asked for sponsorship and for all monies donated from €2 up it all adds up - Thank You. If I missed you when I was out at night fundraising and you would like to donate contact me on 0861511853.”
