Carrick first XV got their first win in the league last Sunday be beating one of the league leaders Newport 19-16 at home in Tybroughney.

Carrick were leading 9-3 at half time with three penalty kicks by outhalf Charlie Boland.

Carrick scrumhalf Richard Downey scored a try early in the second half and the conversion was added by Charlie Boland, he later added a further penalty to give the home side a 10 point cushion going into the last few minutes of the match.

Newport did however score a late try to earn themselves a losing bonus point.

This weekend the firsts travel to play Killarney in the next round of the league.

A weakened under 17s side travelled away to play Thurles in the East Munster league and were out-gunned by a stronger team, but much thanks to the lads for a big effort. This Sunday they travel away again to play Nenagh. The under 15s play Fethard, also away this Sunday.
