Alan Quinlan’s huge reception at Thomond Park

Munster rugby legend Alan Quinlan, who has announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the season, received a rapturous reception during Munster’s Magners League win over Connacht at Thomond Park on Friday night.

Quinlan led out the side with captain Paul O’Connell and received a standing ovation when he left the field late in the second half.

The Tipperary-born player has won 211 Munster caps and is one of the province’s all-time greats.

If last year’s Tipperary Person of the Year fails to appear in the Magners League semi-final with Munster or the final if they get there then Friday’s match in Thomond Park may have been his last in the red jersey.

And the former Clanwilliam player certainly left on a high with a typical all-action performance that typified his entire career in the Munster jersey.
