Carrick on Suir RFC beaten by Thurles

Carrick firsts travelled away to play Thurles in the Munster Junior Shield last Sunday. Overall Carrick played very well throughout, and were leading 9-0 at half time thanks to three successful penalty kicks by Charlie Boland.

Carrick firsts travelled away to play Thurles in the Munster Junior Shield last Sunday. Overall Carrick played very well throughout, and were leading 9-0 at half time thanks to three successful penalty kicks by Charlie Boland.

Carrick were still leading 9-5 going into the final quarter when Thurles got a second try and added the conversion.

Carrick continued well and there were good games by Brian Phelan, David Harrison and David Kiersey. The pack did well and the team tackled well overall. But Thurles finished stronger with another converted try for a final score of 19-9. Carrick are all set now for the league which starts on Sunday, October 7 with a home game versus Presentation.

The Carrick under 16 and under 18 girls started their season last Saturday with training games away in Clonmel and thanks to our hosts for a valuable exercise ahead of the Munsterwide seven aside blitz competition which starts this Saturday 29 with an under 18 blitz in Thurles. On Saturday, October 13 Carrick will be hosting this competition.
