Waterpark staged a late rally and scored two tries in the last seven minutes to beat Clanwilliam and capture the Under 18 East Munster League title in Clonmel on Sunday.
The early stages of the match saw Clanwilliam put pressure on Waterpark resulting in penalties with Niall Leahy getting three points on the board after fifteen minutes.
Waterpark were driven back by Clanwilliam on each occasion they tried to attack with Conor Lucey and Gavin Hickey particularly solid in the centre of the field.
Clanwilliam used the wind to their advantage as Niall Leahy’s kicking caused problems for the Waterpark back three.
Leahy put Clanwilliam six points up after twenty five minutes. Both sides were playing excellent rugby in an exciting and competitive game.
Five minutes before half time, Niall Leahy kicked a spectacular drop goal from thirty five meters to leave Clanwilliam leading 9-0 at half time.
Playing with the wind in the second half, Waterpark came more into the game but Clanwilliam competed for everything, turning-over ball on occasions and making it very difficult for Waterpark to make progress.
Sean Meagher, Jack Comerford, Darragh Crowe and Frank Mooney were to the fore in tackling and disrupting Waterpark possession.
Clanwilliam went close to scoring a try with fifteen minutes remaining following a break by Darragh Burke.
For the remainder of the game Waterpark had the better of matters. Some good kicking pinned Clanwilliam into their twenty two and the first Waterpark try came towards the end of normal time.
Clanwilliam continued to work hard until Waterpark sealed their win with their second try deep into injury time.
This was a disappointing end to a great Clanwilliam effort having given everything in their bid to win the title.
