Clonmel beat Waterford City 18-13 in their opening Garryowen Cup match on Friday.
Clonmel played in strong blustery winds in the first half, and took the game to Waterford from the kick off. However despite much of the possession, they trailed 8-0 at half time. In the second half they kicked two penalties to make it 8-6. In the final quarter, a great kick from deep in the Waterfod side and saw Clonmel chase down the ball to allow Luke Hogan in under the posts for a well–deserved, duly converted, Clonmel try. After what seemed like an eternity defending a 8-13 lead, the final whistle went and Clonmel had secured an all-important winning result. Clonmel will now host Nenagh Ormonde RFC in the semi-final of this cup competition on September 22nd. (to be confirmed)
