Clonmel High School played hosts to Midleton College in the Mungret Cup quarter final in Clonmel RFC last Wednesday and lost 15-5.

Despite the best efforts of the home team, the Cork school emerged victorious after a hard fought game.

The High School began well with some good interplay between backs and forwards. Their efforts were rewarded with a 5–3 lead at half time courtesy of a try from scrum half Alex Sheehan. The second half played out much as the first with neither side seeming capable of unlocking the other’s defence. That was until ten minutes from the end when a Midleton maul brought them to the High School’s try line. The home side defended valiantly but eventually Midleton scored their try and kicked a conversion to give them the lead for the first time.

Yet the High School took the game to Midleton looking for a try. However, a turn over ball allowed the Cork team to score the final try of the game on full time.

This was a brave performance from the High School and the players must be commended for their efforts not just in this match but throughout the season. So well done to all involved.
