Carrick crowned champions without playing

Carrick on Suir RFC were crowned league champions last Sunday even though they did not play a match that day. The final fixture in the Munster Junior league Division Three was to be a visit from Kilrush but the Clare team did not travel resulting in a walk over for Carrick. This moved Carrick to the top of the table, overtaking two other teams who already had all their games played.

It is a very proud time for the club as it is our first time winning this league. Well done to all involved, all the hard work by Captain Michael Carroll, vice captains and coaches has paid off. Club president Mick Hickey commended the captain and the whole squad for their persistence throughout the season.

In other news the under 15s were runners up in a seven a side tournament in Clonmel last weekend, only losing to Waterpark in the final of the plate competition. This Sunday morning the under 15s play in another plate semi final away in Fethard.

The combined Carrick and Clonmel girls team played a match in Charleville also last weekend, but were beaten by tougher opposition in a combined Fermoy and Thurles team which included many players on the Munster girls team.
