Clonmel’s 1st XV travelled to Waterpark RFC on Sunday last to play in the final round of the Munster Junior League. A missed last second conversion from the side line, forty metres out was the difference between the two teams at the end of the day.
It would have been great if Clonmel won their final league game as it would have been a tremendous thank you to a great coach, Hogan Chapmann. Unfortunately, after spending two years in Clonmel with his partner Leanne, both have decided to call it a day and return to New Zealand.
Clonmel were missing a lot of players because of injuries, weddings and many of the team working abroad. It took the new team nearly all of the first half to get used to each other and the different styles. As a result a lot of mistakes were made and Waterpark led at half time by 12 points to nil. Waterpark’s scores came from their centre, Martin O’Neill in the 4th and 30th minutes. The second try was converted by outhalf, player/coach Jarred Dunbar.
Even with such a large gap between the teams Clonmel were not dispirited. Clonmel were by far the better team in the second half and were first to score with a penalty from David Hoyne after three minutes. Dunbar replied ten minutes later to restore the 12-point gap between the teams. From then on it was all Clonmel and their resolve and control say Hoyne land two more penalties, and Mark Corby score a well deserved try.
Corby’s try brought Clonmel to within a point of Waterpark. The try was scored in the dying seconds of the game, therefore the referee would only allow time for the conversion. Unfortunately the conversion was missed, so Clonmel lost the game 15 points to 14.
The whole Clonmel panel that travelled to Waterpark are to be congratulated for their commitment, dedication, and never say die attitude. Well done.
U-17 East Munster Cup Quarter Final: Clonmel RFC 22, Nenagh Ormond 20
Clonmel travelled to Nenagh last Sunday in the quarter final of the East Munster Cup and won a very exciting game by two points. The match was in the melting pot until the final whistle. This was a fantastic performance by the Clonmel team, who showed great heart to grind out a result against a senior club like Nenagh Ormond on their home pitch. The team will now play either Cashel or Clanwilliam in the semi final.
Adam Burke Memorial Cup and Plate

It was a fantastic day of excellent rugby. The spirit and camaraderie between teams, coaches and mentors was tremendous.
Cashel won the Cup, beating Dungarvan, and Waterpark won the plate, beating Fethard in the final.
The Burke family (Mary, Billy, Lorna and Amy) presented the trophies and looked after the catering for all the teams.
