On Friday night under lights in Tybroughney, Carrick under 17s played Waterpark in the final league match and although they lost, the 20-nil scoreline was not a true reflection of the game as the Carrick lads put in a good performance.
But the season continues and training goes on as usual as there are challenge matches to be played.
The under 15s also finished their match on the wrong side of the scoreline in the league versus Waterford City away, but continue to show improving performances and good numbers present. Josh Hall and Padraig Gannon had particularly good games. This Sunday they play a Waterpark under 15s development team at home on Sunday in the East Munster league.
Under 16 Girls
The under 16 girls played two matches in the final round of the Munster seven aside blitz in Shannon on Saturday, only losing narrowly to both St. Marys and Thurles following which they attended the Ireland v Fiji match in Thomond Park, so an enjoyable day out for all.
Preparations are now under way for the full fifteen aside rugby in the New Year.
The men’s first fifteen almost pulled of an upset while taking on the league leaders Muskerry at home last Sunday. Charlie Boland scored a penalty in the first half to give a half time score of 10-3 to the visitors. The home team scored a try in the second half when Carrick opted for a scrum when awarded a penalty in the opposition 22, Carrick ran the ball and the scrum half Jason Lonergan touched down under the posts for the try, Charlie Boland added the conversion to level the match. A draw now seemed a fair result but the visitors pushed hard for a try in the closing few minutes but could not break the Carrick defence, but did score a drop goal to clinch the match, leaving Carrick with just a losing bonus point.
This Sunday they travel to Castleisland for the next round in the league.
