Rockwell College lose rugby cup match

Rockwell College lost their Avonmore Munster Schools Junior Cup rugby tie on Wednesday when losing 14-12 to Castletroy College, Limerick, at Clonmel. It was a cruel defeat for the Tipperary college as if a last minute conversion from Bill Johnson had gone over they would have won. The score would have been level at 14-all but Rockwell would have gone through as they had outscored the Limerick side by two tries to one. The unlucky conversion kicked followed a great late try from Willie Coffey.

The Rockwell team was - C O’Shaugnessy (Clonmel), S Quirke (Clonmel), W Coffey (Toomevara), E Stone (England), L Molloy (Waterford), B Johnston (Clonmel), B Riley (Bahrain), T Anglim (Fethard), D Fehilly (Clonmel), C Casey (capt, Dublin), W Purcell (Boharlahan), M Flanaghan (Moycarkey), D O’Dwyer (Moycarkey), J Bolger (Wexford), J Tierney (Cashel). Replacements: I O’Reilly (Roscommon ) for Casey 37 mins, S Lowry (Carlow) for Stone 54 mins.
