On the heels of a very successful six nations winning campaign by the Irish women’s national rugby team, the Clonmel ladies rugby team is hosting an open evening this Friday August 30th at 7.30pm at the Clonmel Rugby Club grounds.

Interest in ladies rugby is at an all-time high in the country and Friday’s event is geared at sharing information with potential new-comers to the sport, while also welcoming back existing players to the new season. Clonmel Rugby Club has fared well in the ladies ranks over the years and current Munster and Irish full back Niamh Briggs played with Clonmel for a number of seasons before moving to her current club UL Bohemians RFC.

For any ladies over the age of eighteen interested in getting involved or learning more about ladies rugby, please do come along and meet the team. An enjoyable and fun evening is planned!

On the men’s front, the team’s pre-season training is in full swing. On Tuesday, August 20th, the senior squad played host to and a friendly game against a visiting side from Albany, New York. The Albany Knicks RFC team was visiting Ireland as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations and it was a pleasure to welcome them to Clonmel and line out against them in a very friendly affair.

After hosting our Albany visitors the senior squad travelled West to Mayo last weekend to play another a pre-season friendly against Ballina RFC.

Clonmel’s first competitive outing on the schedule will be away to Waterford City in the Garryowen Cup on Sept 8th with the

Munster Junior League campaign kicking-off on October 6th away to league newcomers Muskerry in Cork.

Finally our Mini Warriors ( U7-U12s) are back in action on Saturday morning Sept 7th with a great morning’s programme being put together by Noel Cunningham and the coaches for the boys and girls and their parents. This much eagerly awaited return to the fields promises to be a great day for our young and rising stars.
