Following a break in games over the bank holiday weekend, action resumed in the Munster Junior League Division 1 last Sunday with the Clonmel 1 XV playing host to Cork side, Kanturk.
Clonmel was going into the game on the back of a very positive start to the league campaign with three wins from three over Muskerry, Clonakility and Kilfeacle.
The home side got off to a good start with an early opening try by Neville Melbourne in the first five minutes. Both sides then traded penalties before a Kanturk surge and try levelled the score on 8-8 on the 22 minute mark.
Clonmel responded quickly and after a period of sustained pressure by the pack, Ronan Crosse went over the line for a try that was duly converted by Brian Lonergan to 15-8 at half time.
Four additional Kanturk tries, three of which were converted all went unanswered in the second half.
Despite many forays and attacks by Clonmel, no additional points were gained in the during the forty minutes and Kanturk ran out winners with a final score of 34-15.
A disappointing end to the winning streak by Clonmel, but still a 75% success rate by the home side and a good rebound will get matters back on track. Next Sunday, Clonmel hosts Old Christians in round 5.
