U12 A League

Bohemians 1 Carrick United 3

This was a hard fought game against a side that occupied second spot on the table prior to the match. Carrick went behind 10 mins in to the first half when we failed to clear a corner and Bohs finished well to the net. Both teams tried to play good football, on what was a cold but bright day, but the long grass went against us at times. We equalised midway through the first half when Ian’s free kick from 25 yards out was too hot to handle for the unfortunate Bohs keeper. It was nip and tuck and our midfield of Ronan, Billy, Dillon and Eoghan fought hard to keep Bohs at bay while Aidan did well on the right of the defence containing any threat down that side. Chances were few but Mikie and Angela gave the home defence a lot of problems.

The second half saw us have a real go at Bohs. Zach provided power and strength in the middle while Tom and Christy never gave an inch in the middle of the back. With the impressive Peter at left full, and Joey coming in at the right Carrick never looked like conceding in the second half and they were ably assisted by the calm Adam in goal. James D and Mark joined the fray and added great tempo and desire. Dillon caused problems all day with his touch and pace and he was rewarded 10 mins in to the second half with a well taken goal. Carrick looked to put the game beyond the reach of the home side and did so when the hard working Billy coolly lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box with 5 mins to go. Overall, a good victory against a good and well organised Bohs side.

Under 14 A League

Carrick United 5 Dungarvan 0

On Saturday last we entertained Dungarvan in Tom Drohan Park in the Under 14A league. The visitors set out their stall to defend deep and try to catch us on the break, this tactic allowed us the majority of the possession in the first half. While our passing and movement was good we failed to make the breakthrough despite a couple of chances and we went in at halftime without a score. We started the second half in the same manner but it was the introduction of Luke Kiely five minutes into the second half that gave us the lift we needed. Luke’s run down the left after James Whelan’s through ball resulted in a hand ball and a penalty which was dispatched to the net by James. This goal settled us down and we started to move the ball even better and it wasn’t long before Billy Power rattled the visitors net to put us two up. Luke Kiely made it three shortly after this, cutting in from the left and curling a superb shot into the top corner. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of a gallant Dungarvan side who had battled gamely to this point. Darragh Walsh and a Billy Power free kick finished the scoring to give us another victory and maintain our good run. A good performance from the entire squad on the day, David Power, Josh Ellis, Joseph Keogh, Martin Power, Dean Kiely, Darragh Walsh, Graeme Holloway, James Whelan, Dean Walsh, Billy Power, Jack Walsh, Luke Kiely, Sean Martin and Shidzad

Under 16 A League

Ballinroad 1 Carrick United 2

This is a difficult venue to come to and we were lucky enough to come away with 3 points. We went in one up at half time, Brendan applying the finishing touch to a wonderful free kick from Conor. In the second half we continued to be sloppy and Ballinroad equalised when we gave the ball away on the half way line, then missed a tackle and gave away a penalty when the attacker broke in to the box. Ben guessed right but was unable to keep the spot kick out. Carrick were given a life line with less than 10 mins remaining when Conor was hauled down in the box following a tremendous run. However, the Ballinroad keeper made a great save from the resulting penalty. This Carrick side does not lie down though and from the resulting corner kick Brendan finished high in to the net to continue his impressive scoring spree. We did not play that well but we showed great grit and determination to haul ourselves back in to the game and stay in contention in the league. SFAI duties are next, on Saturday week, when we will travel to Wexford to play North End Utd, with a place in the last 32 at stake.
