Promotion contenders Tipperary Town FC salvaged a draw against near neighbours St. Michael’s B in this crucial local derby at the VEC grounds, Tipp town last Sunday.

On a bitterly cold day both sides in the first half more or less cancelled each other out - Vinny Godfrey had a chance in the 5th minute but it didn’t trouble John Keating. St. Michael’s B eventually broke the stalemate when John Carew forced the ball home after a goalmouth melee on 42 minutes to make it 1-0 in favour of Saints at the halfway stage.
Tipp Town had much the better of the second half and Mark Flannery hit the crossbar with a solid effort before Stevie Quinn capitalised on a James Power blunder to make it 1-1 on 57 minutes. A player from each side saw red as St. Michael’s B held on to share the spoils.

In a division where nine points separate first from seventh, it sees Tipperary Town move on to 14 points with 7 games left. St. Michael’s B remains third from bottom on 11 points with 6 games left.

Rosegreen move joint second in division

Rosegreen Rangers kept their promotion aspirations from League Division 2 alive whilst sending Clonmel Town B a step closer to the drop at a bitterly cold Ferryhouse, Clonmel last Sunday.

The game was organised at the 11th hour as Rosegreen Rangers’ Tipperary Cup tie with Burncourt Celtic was postponed due to a bereavement. It saw a Rosegreen Rangers side that have promotion aspirations control from start to finish. Trevor Downey broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after 10 minutes. Trevor Downey made it 2-0 direct from a free-kick on 20 minutes to lead 2-0 at the break.

A minute into the second half a Dathi Bargary volley from the edge of the penalty area proved unstoppable to put Rosegreen Rangers 3-0 ahead. This game was over as a contest on the hour when Eoin Byrnes made it 4-0. Clonmel Town B still without a win got a consolation goal from an Alan Lonergan spot-kick five minutes from time.

This victory sees Rosegreen Rangers move to joint second on 15 points with 6 games left. Clonmel Town B are looking like relegation is on the cards for a second successive season as they remain without a win on 5 points with just 2 games left.
