Holders Clonmel Town showed their intentions as they came from behind to record a comprehensive victory over St. Michael’s FC in this Tipperary Youth Cup 2nd Round tie in the Dr. Pat O’Callaghan Complex, Clonmel last Saturday.

After a slow start, it saw Clonmel Town begin to create chances with Mark O’Reilly going close twice. However, it was St. Michael’s that shocked the home side on 20 minutes, when Elliot Thompson put the visitors ahead with a fine finish from an acute angle.

But Clonmel Town regained the upper hand and responded brilliantly adding three goals in a ten-minute spell just before the break. This was thanks to two goals from former Two Mile Borris striker and Town debutant Ashley Laslett, who throughout the game was a constant menace up front, and the third goal came from a fantastic effort from Harry O’Connor from the edge of the area to lead 3-1.

The second half was more of the same and the next goal was to prove to be the all important one. It came midway through the second half from for Clonmel Town with a wonder strike from Mark O’Reilly that looped over the keeper and into the net to seal the victory for the holders at 4-1. Nevertheless, Clonmel Town did not sit back and added further goals from headers by Kevin Fahey and Stephen Kelly for an emphatic 6-1 victory. On this form Clonmel Town will be again the side to beat in the blue riband competition of youth football.
