ROSEGREEN RANGERS 4 KILSHEELAN UNITED 2
Rosegreen Rangers despite being down to ten players for two thirds of this game managed to stop promotion chasing Kilsheelan United from going joint top of League Division 2 in the Community Field, Rosegreen last Sunday week.
In one of the few games that survived the inclement weather it saw Rosegreen Rangers make an early breakthrough after 5 minutes when Trevor Downey slotted home a penalty after Eoin Byrnes was fouled. Rosegreen Rangers with promotion aspirations of their own doubled their lead on 13 minutes when Frank Culleton headed home a pinpoint centre from Vinny Downey. Kilsheelan United who could have gone joint top with a victory, were thrown a lifeline on 21 minutes when the Rosegreen keeper was dismissed for a foul and from the resultant spot-kick Michael McHugh reduced the deficit to just a single goal at 2-1 by the halfway point.
With Kilsheelan unable to put their numerical advantage to good use, the visitors were rocked back on their heels on 55 minutes when a shot from 30 yards by Vinny Downey proved unstoppable and restored Rosegreen’s two-goal advantage at 3-1. Kilsheelan were again just a goal in arrears on 65 minutes when Conor Murphy added his name to the score-sheet. However, with Kilsheelan pushing on looking for a share of the points they conceded a direct free kick on 76 minutes that was dispatched to the net by Trevor Downey and secure all three points for Rosegreen Rangers.
