After the exertions of last week in Kerry another challenge was presented in Kilbarry last Sunday for Carrick United against the league leaders Southend in the Munster Junior Cup.
Chances were few and far between in a game played in a swirling wind and wet conditions. Both sides attempted to play football and the outcome was in doubt up to the end of extra time.
Carrick thought they’d won it when a Glen Keane header hit the post and seemed to cross the line but the referee was not close enough to give it.
Both sides could have won it but the Hoops prevailed in a tense shoot out with Eoin Burke firing home the decisive penalty to win 6-5 on penalties to keep us interested on all fronts after Christmas.
Similar to our visit to Tralee the tenacity and spirit in the squad was evident throughout and a special word of thanks to our travelling support.
