Foley hits winning goal for Carrick United u-15s to win title

An absolutely brilliant performance from everybody saw Carrick United secure the Under 15 A Waterford league title last week. To beat Villa twice in one season... to go through the league unbeaten...and to win it at home in Tom Drohan Park...even Carlsberg don’t do these moments!

Well done to all 19 lads in the panel. At last you’ve fulfilled your great potential and there should be more rewarding evenings ahead of you now.

This was a cracking game to watch, almost like a chess game, two good sides watching and waiting for any opportunity to gain advantage. Played for the most part in a downpour Carrick had two goals ruled out for offside before David Foley scored the vital goal just before the interval.

Villa had most possession in that opening half but disciplined in defence the home side kept the visitors a bay. The home side were much brighter in the second half matching Villa’s good football. Carrick came close to a second when Alex Sheehan fired over from close in. Carrick fought for every ball in very determined fashion their passion and belief a joy to watch.

A draw would suffice for this very talented team thus the final 10 minutes were nerve racking for the home onlookers. Villa pushed forward but the Carrick defence and keeper were the coolest guys in the complex as the thwarted Villa holding out for a very deserved victory. Congratulations to all the boys and the management team of Ian and John. An Under 15 A League title is a great achievement, records show it may be the clubs first. There
