CAHIR PARK 4 BURNCOURT CELTIC 0
An Eamon Wotton hat-trick saw First Division pacesetters Cahir Park prove too strong on the day for gallant Third Division minnows Burncourt Celtic in the 3rd Round Munster Junior Cup tie played at the Ardfinnan Road, Cahir last Sunday.
Although Cahir Park enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession throughout this game, Burncourt Celtic dug in and kept their more illustrious opponents at bay for the most of the opening half.
It was actually just a minute before the half-time whistle sounded that Cahir eventually got the breakthrough. A lapse in concentration by an otherwise hard-working defence allowed striker Eamon Wotton fire a loose ball home from close range.
With that breakthrough secured Cahir Park went on to dominate the second half. With Burncourt Celtic having to come out of their defensive shell, it allowed Cahir Park more room to find players and the home side doubled the lead on 50 minutes when Wotton added his second of the afternoon firing to roof of the net again from close range. It was 3-0 on 55 minutes when Cahir Park were awarded a penalty and James Darcy made no mistake from the resultant spot-kick. Cahir Park put this game to bed on 63 minutes when Wotton completed his hat-trick after good support play from James Darcy. Burncourt Celtic’s main threat came from set-pieces, but these were dealt with by Cahir net-minder Aaron Wall. Cahir Park will face a much tougher task in the New Year when they visit Waterford to face either Hibernians or Tramore AFC in the last 32.
