Carrick United Premier squad advanced to the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup with an easy win over Cork AUL side Glen Celtic last Saturday.

A very sticky pitch and heavy rain were the ingredients for a hard slog but the Carrick boys made light of the conditons.

Ian Clery opened the scoring after 5 minutes slotting home a penalty after Paul Coady was fouled. Carrick continued to dominate against a plucky home side and midway through the half Michael Clarkson made it 2-0 with a close in finish. Michael Coady hit the metal work from a free kick just before the interval.

As in the opening half Carrick struck early in the second period when Paul Coady’s effort was helped over the line by the home keeper. Carrick were now in full control, the only surprise was that it was late on when they scored again, Glen Keane and Keith Walsh adding to the score line.

A trip to either Regional of Limerick or Tullamore will be a much harder test in the next round. Thanks to those who travelled and stood in soggy cold conditions.

Dungarvan 3 Carrick United 2
Great display from both sides in the match. Dungarvan caused problems right from the start putting great pressure on our defence. Peter Kean was kept busy in the goal having to pull off a number of saves. However Dungarvan were rewarded with their first goal with a great finish from their midfielder. The second half saw a number of changes to the Carrick side but Dungarvan were rewarded with another goal early in the second half. Carrick kept their heads up and they were rewarded with a goal from Leon Kennedy after great link up play from the midfield. Leon then got his second minutes later. The match looked like it was going to be a draw but Dungarvan got the winning goal in the closing minutes of the game.
